Development & Peace

The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) - Caritas Canada - is a member of Caritas Internationalis, a global confederation of 165 Catholic organizations. Its vision is rooted in Catholic social teaching from the documents of Vatican II to the recently published Laudato Si. These teachings have been lived out and built upon through countless projects, programs, campaigns, negotiations and people around the world. In October of 2017, D&P celebrated its 50th year of international solidarity.

Our Development and Peace group at Lourdes:

  • Encourages membership in D&P by every member of the parish. Until Dec 31st in this Jubilee year, membership is FREE and for LIFE. After that, it will be $10 for life.
  • Works closely with the diocesan council to support events with speakers and films, discussion groups, retreats, an annual Food, Family & Faith weekend, demonstrations, a Regional Assembly in May and Jubilee celebrations in 2016-17.
  • Sponsors the annual D&P fall Education and Action campaign and spring Share Lent campaign, that draw attention to unjust social, political and economic structures.
  • Provides opportunities for youth and adults to go on Solidarity visits to countries where our partners have projects.
  • Collects used stamps (in Bernadette Hall) for fundraising and sells copies of Jubilee for $30 each.
