Alpha for Catholics (UPDATED)

Did you know that many Canadians do not have a faith tradition?  Even among those baptized, many do not actively live their faith and many have lost their faith.  As a consequence there are many life questions that can go unexplored and unanswered. Alpha Catholic is a gentle program of evangelization. For example, it never mentions conversion to the Christian faith.  Instead, there are designed talks on the meaning of life and the basic sharing of the faith followed by conversations where any question and comment is welcome without judgment.  And each evening begins with supper.  Alpha Catholic is built upon three pillars: Food, Faith and Fellowship.  The Program is for those who have been away from the Church for many years, or for those who have never belonged to any church or faith.  Our Parish will run an Alpha course Tuesday evenings, 6-8:30pm beginning, Tuesday, September 1st.  Do you know someone who might benefit from Alpha?  Consider inviting a friend, a family member, a co-worker, even a stranger to our Alpha program.  For more information contact Rey and Gigi Yu through the Parish Office or to register someone, call 416-924-6257 or e-mail the parish here.

Alpha started over thirty years ago at Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB), an Anglican church in Central London, UK.

It was originally developed as a short course for people in the church. In 1990, Nicky Gumbel took over running Alpha and recruited many people outside of the church. Today, more than 27 million people have attended Alpha in more than 169 countries, and it has been translated into 112 different languages. It spread, and now runs in numerous* parts of the worldwide church – the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church, the Pentecostal Church and all the mainline Protestant denominations.
