Update re Syrian Refugees

Unknown Syrian Refugee

As you may remember, last September as a parish we committed ourselves to sponsor a Refugee family as part of Project Hope. Since that time, we have been working happen. We are preparing to welcome a Syrian family of six. The father is Ibrahim and the mother is Faisal. Their four children are between the ages of 4 and 18, one daughter (Nour) and three sons (Omar, Yazen and Munir). They have been living in Jordan as asylum seekers since 2012. They have been accepted by the UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) as eligible for asylum. We were introduced to them through the office of Refugees, Archdiocese of Toronto. At this time it is unclear when they will be able to come to Canada as there are still many forms which must be completed and processed. This past week we were able to make contact with the family by Skype through the assistance of an interpreter at the Arab Centre. This was a wonderful moment for everyone as we begin to build a relationship with them. The Parish will continue to be informed in the coming weeks and months as the process of welcoming them unfolds. Please keep this family and all refugees in your prayers and thank you for your support as we work together to welcome this family to Canada and into our community.
