Advent Parish Mission

Join us for our Advent Parish Mission, to be held in the church December 8, 9 and 10th at 7:30 pm, when Fr Patrick McCorkell, SJ will guide us through these evenings of reflection and prayer. In the busy time before Christmas, be sure to set some time aside for yourself during Advent and join us for these wonderful evenings.

I remember once when soldiers came into our neighbourhood in Jamaica. The week before, a group of men had burned the local police station and so the army wanted to demonstrate just "who’s in charge." They ordered all the men from one community to gather in the street and the women and children to also come out and watch.

Camp Ekon is unique among summer camps in Ontario. Fr Massie, who had been at Lourdes some years ago, founded it and had a vision for the camp that focused on the staff. Most summer camps focus on the children who will attend but Fr Massie saw the camp as offering an opportunity to develop leadership among young people.

When I was making my retreat while in the Philippines before coming to Lourdes, I remember one day I was given a reading to pray in which God seemed mad. I found it difficult to believe that indeed God was mad or angry, so I tried to explain it away when I met with the Retreat Director. He was not convinced with my attempt to explain God‘s anger away.

This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in God’s salvation. This weekend, we join with other Canadians in giving thanks for the blessings we receive. Gratitude is probably the "biggest" of the virtues – it takes up a lot of space!

Lourdes Food Bank Thanks YOU!

The Clients, Volunteers and Staff of Lourdes food Bank are very grateful your generosity this weekend and throughout the year! From September 2013 to August 2014 we have served 8706 adults and children at our local food bank in St Jamestown. The total number of people served has increased by an incredible 37%.
